Power Yoga for Every Body With Over 20 Workouts for All Levels of Students

Whether you’re a beginning, intermediate, or advanced student of yoga, and whether you have 15 minutes or two hours for your yoga practice, you’ll find a power yoga routine that fits your level and your schedule in Power Yoga for Every Body. Instructor Barbara Benagh instructs by voice-over while Jason Gordon demonstrates 24 routines of the “Slow Flow” method of vinyasa yoga: one pose flowing into the next. Benagh instructs this slow practice with careful attention to the details of breathing, movement, alignment, and transition. “Yoga is so much more than a workout–it cultivates your mind, it calms your nerves, it develops an internal awareness,” says Benagh. To start out, watch the 15-minute interview with Benagh explaining the benefits of yoga, the Slow Flow technique, how to progress, and tips for incorporating yoga into a busy life. –Joan Price

5 Stars YOGA wonderful!
This DVD is so amazing! I love how user friendly the setup is and how wonderfully narrated it is. An excellent addition to any yoga practitioner’s home library.

5 Stars Good yoga class!
I have all Barbara’s yoga DVDs. Her style is very nice, she’s a great teacher. Her yoga is accessible to everyone even if you suffer from health conditions. The DVDs offer a wide set of options so that you are able to fit your practice to your daily schedule. I highly recommend her DVDs. They are totally worth the investment.

1 Star Uninspiring
I was hoping to have another great yoga video with this one but it really disappointed me. These are some of the things that bothered me:

1. The practice is done in a studio with a really ugly green wall and carpet. Maybe that is not so important for some but it was visually distracting to me with its ugliness!

2. Although this video boasts on having 25 routines but in actuality most of them contain the same sequences in different order or in different combinations.

3. Beginner and Intermediate practices are way too easy even for beginner yoga practitioners. In my opinion, the advance practice is the only level remotely challenging.

4. The practice doesn’t flow nicely as sequences are very much segmented.

I have used this DVD once and it’s been just sitting around. I totally regret of getting this DVD.

5 Stars Very Good
This has been a very good addition to my yoga practice with a thoughtful approach to developing strength and power. Though I have tried a few power type classes I found they moved a bit too quickly for me, though I enjoyed the concept.

Here is a slightly different approach where the flow is not as quick as a class, but is otherwise the same as classes I have taken, but still provides you with a workout to develop strength.

The routines are made of flowing routines that give you time to get into position and really feel the stretch. It is not too long, but slightly longer than classes I have taken and the slight extra time and focus has helped alot with some things I have not really been able to get the hang of before.

5 Stars I love this video… a great way to slow down
I purchased this video and another that was fast paced at the same time. They compliment eachother perfectly.

I chose this one because the reviews said it was a slow work out. I LOVE it!! I was looking for a slow and relaxing workout to accompany my high speed life. I spend my days chasing after 4 young kids. I really was looking for something that would allow me to get into poses and then hold them. I wanted to challange my patience, strenth, durability, and balance. This video does all of that. An added bonus is that I have noticed my thighs, waist and arms becoming noticably thinner.

My oldest daughter has started doing this video with me. She enjoys getting the extra stretch in everyday too.

I think if you are looking for a SLOW relaxing, but still challenging workout this is a great video. For those of you looking for a highly intense, ever changing pose, or fast moving workout this may not be the right fit. This video is VERY SLOW, but is still intense in its own manner.

Baron Baptiste Unlocking Athletic Power Power Vinyasa Yoga Live For Beginners and All Levels

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Short and Sweet!
This DVD is perfect for a day after a long run! It stretches every area possible that tightens up after a distance run. Love it!!

5 Stars Baron Is Great
I had a chance to take one class with Baron a couple of years ago and it was a great experience, he is very engaging and personable, so I wanted to got a video or two by him. (If you ever have a chance to take a class with him, do so. He is alot of fun.)

This DVD has a a routine that is one that is leads you through a set of moves that will warm you up and lossening your muscles (Sun Salutation, Warrior) and then continues on with poses that really help develop strength and your abdominals. Boat Pose is one I love and always find that it is one that really develps my strength.

The routine is just shy of a half hour with some parts a bit more challenging to me than others, but his expert advice and tips help me along.

5 Stars wow!
Athletic Power is challenging and really opens up your hips. He is easy to listen to. I feel like I’ve done a workout when I am finished. I have core yoga too and that’s fantastic as well.

5 Stars Great beginner Yoga DVD
This is a fantastic form of yoga, which focuses on traditional postures. This DVD is a fantastic way to become introduced to the practice. I also purchased Core Power and Unlocking Athletic Power, both of which are great. Within 3 weeks I felt stronger, thinner, and with less joint and muscle pain. I’ve always been a big fan of yoga, but had not considered a practice with DVDs until the Baron Baptiste videos were suggested to me. I’m glad I gave it a chance, and expect that I will be using these DVDs for years to come.

5 Stars Very good short routine
About myself:

I’m into Yoga since about six years.

I practice dayly.

I also teach Power Vinyasa Yoga at a local Hotal Spa Fitness Studio.

I personally like fluid and complete physically challanging Power Yoga Routines.

Since I’m german my english spelling is pretty bad, sorry for that!

About the DVD: You can’t do a 60 to 80 Minutes Training every day, and this is for the days in between.

It’s a great short Workout that leaves you warm and energized. Even though it is short it is still physically demanding.

Baron is a great teacher! He honors every aspect of Yoga and encourages his students in a professionel an gentil way. (Although he seems to overdue it just a little from time to time with sayings like: “Angels fly because they take themselves lightly”. Come on Baron! But to me that makes him even more sympathic. Obviously he is so much into Yoga that he looses it just a little from time to time ;-))

The routine is fluid and round.

It is suited for all Practicioners from Beginner (meaning you already took some Yoga lessons and know the main poses) to advanced.

I highly recommend it!

I hope this was helpfull for you!

The Firm Power Half Hour

Studio: Gaiam Americas Release Date: 12/02/2008 Run time: 30 minutes

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Out of Sync
I can see that this workout would be very effective if I could follow it! This girl has bad rhythm… she’s not in sync with the music half the time… and the moves are not repeated enough for those of us who are not dancers to be able to catch on. Once she starts a sequence, it ends so quickly and she moves on to something else and I’m still left behind trying to figure out the other move. All the FIRM workouts are great, but this one should have been edited better before being released.

2 Stars Frustrating/Hard to follow
Although this looks like a great workout it is almost impossible to follow. The moves do not look that difficult but she switches between them so incredibly fast that I just could not keep up. I wish she would stick to one move or one routine a little but longer and then I might get the hang of it. I feel as though I wasted my money on this one. :(

5 Stars The Firm: Power Half Hour
Boy, this keeps you really moving–fast paced but steps you can follow. Good sculpting exercies in between cardio. Great workout when you only have a short time.

4 Stars Good 30 minute workout
I own a lot of Firm videos and mostly do the 30-45 minute videos these days. This one is a good mix of cardio and strength for a short workout. After a couple of times, I haven’t yet mastered all the moves.

5 Stars Great workout in a short time
I love this workout DVD! I bought it for my mom first, because she, too, loves The Firm tapes, and she let me borrow it. I love that I can get a good workout in 30 minutes. It gets your heartrate up and you feel good afterwards. Some of the cardio was a little tricky to learn the first time because she moves through it real quick and doesn’t give much time to practice(and I am an advanced user), but once you do it a few times, you will get it and then it’s fun.

Highly recommend!

Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga Short Forms with Jennifer Wolfe

ALL NEW!!!
15 minute, 30 minute & 45 minute practices!

Namaste, Welcome to Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga ~ Short Forms with Jennifer Wolfe. Continuing in the spirit of her first award winning DVD Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga, Jennifer has made a short forms version of the DVD the New York Times said, Make you feel good, even with a big belly…my arms and legs got a workout, and I felt stretched, connected and relaxed.”
This DVD was specifically developed for women who are pregnant and have experience with Ashtanga, Vinyasa, or Power Yoga before pregnancy; but can also be used by those with less experience or practitioners of other forms of yoga if they listen to their bodies, use the 3rd trimester modifications, start with the 15 minute practice and only do poses which feel good. This DVD was created to be challenging while giving women different modifications for each stage of their pregnancy. It focuses on breath and body awareness to safely achieve a vigorous practice.

5 Stars Great yoga DVD
I purchased this DVD after being disappointed with the Shiva Rae one. This is a great yoga workout (not just stretching) and the poses can easily be modified to be more or less challenging. My only complaint is that I feel like sometimes the breathing is a little unclear - I often feeling like there are two breaths in before a breath out, although it may just be the style of the instructor that I need to get used to. All in all a great yoga workout.

5 Stars Relaxing, stretching, varied ability levels, great labor prep!
This is an amazing video, and my favorite of the two I purchased. I also bought Anne Getty’s pre & post natal yoga. Anne’s is good, but much less active and a little boring, in my opinion. I prefer this Vinyasa yoga with Jennifer Wolfe, as it is relaxing, strengthening, and has the most options to suit any ability level and yoga need. The poses are my favorites. I am currently 22 weeks pregnant, and this video helps my sore and stiff back, neck, arms, and legs. It increases my circulation and helps me practice relaxation and breathing for labor. Jennifer inspires me and I wish she could be my doula! I had a small amount of experience with vinyasa yoga before my pregnancy (only about 4-6 weeks of classes) and then was not active for my first trimester due to extreme nausea. I was able to start right back in after being inactive for a long time, following modifications. This video will challenge and grow with my practice and prepare me well for labor and delivery. I only wish I had more time to do it every day!

4 Stars A good challenging prenatal yoga practice
Even though the back of this DVD says that beginners can do these practices if they start slow and do the third trimester modifications, I still wouldn’t really recommend this for future moms with no prior yoga experience. Not only is it more challenging than most other prenatal yoga DVDs, it’s a bit fast-paced so if you aren’t familiar with the terminology you might get lost pretty fast. That said, having practiced vinyasa yoga for the past five years, I really love this DVD. It feels like a good balance, less challenging than my usual practice, but still enough that I feel energized afterwards. There are quite a few lunges, as some other reviewers have pointed out, I happen to really like lunges and wanted to continue with them in pregnancy. However, they might not be your thing.

The thing I like most about this DVD is feeling like I don’t have to completely scale back my practice during my pregnancy, and can still continue with things like down dog, lunges for loosening up the hips (rather important in preparation for birth, I imagine) and a replacement for chaturanga that is proposed in the DVD (knees chest chin, no need for your belly to come in contact with the floor) .

The other really nice thing about this DVD, which is good in non-prenatal DVDS as well, is the fact that you can do either a 15 minute, 30 minute or 45 minute practice, depending on your energy level that day, as well as the amount of time you have to practice.

I will say too that I don’t necessarily think you need to have A LOT of yoga experience to use this DVD. I would say that if you have done at least three months or so of yoga classes, and are looking for a more challenging practice than most of the prenatal yoga DVDS on the market, you will like this DVD. As one other reviewer pointed out, it is nice to interchange these practices with a calmer practice on another DVD.

3 Stars Lunges get boring after a while
This yoga dvd is fine a few times, but the repetition of so many lunges is boring after a few workouts. I would have liked a bit more variety. I own both her pre-natal yoga dvds and my comment would be the same for the other one as well.

5 Stars Pregnant and Happy!
I too was looking for a yoga video that would be challenging as I was previously doing Bikram yoga until I was pregnant. The video isn’t as challenging as Bikram yoga (for obvious reasons), however it gets my heart rate high enough to experience a real workout.

Another great thing with this dvd is the option for various timed workouts allowing you to fit it in to a busy schedule, however the 45min workout is the best.
